Deuternomy 6:6-9 gives clear instruction to the Children of Israel to teach their
children The Word. Verse 9 states “any you shall write [God’s commands] on the
doorposts of your house and on your gates. (NKJV)” This verse is clear indication
that God wants people to write out His Word. Journibles™ are a great way to carry
out this command.
On the journaling side of the page, include your own special notes why certain
verses from the scripture side carry special meaning to you. How might your family
benefit from your insights? Leaving your personal thoughts about the Word on
paper leaves a lasting legacy that your family will cherish for generations to come!
Proverbs 27:17 advises: As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.(NIV)
Journibles is a practical way to apply this passage. Small group leaders assign a passage to write out before the next meeting. Each group member should come to the next meeting having recorded the text and their own notes on the journaling side to share with the group. Everyone in the group will benefit from the unique insights and perspectives each person brings, in effect sharpening one another in their walk with Christ. In the additional space on the page, group members can record other unique insights brought forth by their peers for future reference or further study.
An overarching theme running throughout the scriptures from Genesis Revelation is for the older generations to pass on the wisdom of the Bible to the younger generations. Proverbs 22:6 counsels: Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.(NASB) Much of this teaching comes directly through families as well as through youth ministries in the local church.
Researchers have recently rediscovered how important kinesthetic learning can be to retention levels. Students who are encouraged to record their own hand-written notes in school tend to retain more information for longer periods of time than those who simply follow along and are expected to learn by osmosis. Journibles™ are wonderful tools that can help young people retain what they have learned because it is by nature, hands-on.
Spend a portion of your study time as a group writing out scripture passages then discuss what the students have written, or have the students arrive to group having already written out a pre-assigned scripture passage along with their notes on the journaling side for discussion.
Journibles make a wonderful personal devotional! Spend your quiet time pursuing the things of The Lord recording your very own hand-written copy of Gods Word! The Word of God will become even more personal to you as you copy the text. Use the journaling side of the page for your own personal thoughts on each passage. Use the helpful questions on the left side of the page to stimulate your thoughts.
Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity! (NASB)
Use Journibles™ in your congregation. Challenge your church body to write out the verses for the upcoming weeks message in preparation for the sermon on the right-hand side, and use the left hand side on Sunday morning for Sermon notes. Your flock will reap the benefits of the additional pre-sermon study time, and your message will take on fresh meaning.
II Timothy 3:16 states that All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and for instruction in righteousness. (NASB)
Shepherd new and young believers toward deeper spiritual growth in these areas using Journibles™. A spiritually mature believer can come alongside a new believer and teaching the truths of the scriptures, he or she can shepherd new believers toward greater spiritual maturity.
